Good Bye Winter, Hello Spring!

Snowshoe up Home Mountain

Snowshoe up Home Mountain

After a sun filled winter The Home Ranch has closed for the 2015 winter season. Guests enjoyed warmer temperatures while they skate skied around Lodwick Loop, explored the backcountry and trekked to the top of Home Mountain on snowshoes. Our snow is melting at a rapid rate and Douglas, our pastry chef, is excited to get back on the river fishing.

Our Colorado Dude Ranch will spend the next 6 weeks, our off-season, preparing for a busy summer and fall season.   We start each off-season reflecting on the past winter and wanted to share some of the highlights with you as we look forward to the upcoming summer season.

We will miss Brett and Abby!

We will miss Brett and Abby!

Each season the ranch opens its doors to not only amazing guests, but also to talented young men and women that are looking for a different opportunity. Some of our staff make great impressions upon us, and guests, in a single season and some return for a number of seasons and become family. They are what make The Home Ranch ‘home.’ This winter was no exception and we thank each member of our team, and family, for the wonderful memories that they created at the ranch as they set out on their next adventure. Here is what a few of our staff will be doing this summer:

  • Andy has taken a job in Steamboat with Big Agnes, but promises to make cameo appearances
  • Abby will be returning to the east cost
  • Brett is headed to Alaska to guide for the summer, and we are hoping he will find his way back to the ranch in the fall
  • Ski guide and shuttle drive Lizzie is off to hike the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT)
  • After a summer of hiking and winter of skiing, Mattie will be sharing her passion for nature and Colorado at Steamboat Resort this summer
  • Kelsey, Jordian, Kami, Rachel, and Marcus will continue to provide exceptional service at fellow dude ranches this summer and fall

Our summer season will begin May 13 with a Ranch Work Week. Guests and staff will be working side by side as we prepare for an exciting summer season. This is a unique opportunity as guests will get a behind the scenes look at the ranch and be able to get their hands dirty while they learn about pasture management, herd health and gardening. Our staff will join guests for meals in the dining room. Former Head Wrangler Tim Assman and former Wrangler Elana James will return to the ranch to help get the ranch ready.

Our Work Week is just the beginning of our exciting 2015 summer season. We can’t wait to have you meet our new staff and come enjoy the Elk River Valley this summer.  We have a great lineup of yoga, family fun, harvest weeks, weanling weeks, and of course our Orvis fly fishing daily. Need help planing your Summer Colorado Dude Ranch Vacation give the front desk a call!
