Spring, aka Mud Season, has Arrived

As I write this the snow is still falling on the Elk River Valley - reminder that the winters here are long and deep with snow. Guests had the opportunity to experience a wonderland filled with enjoyment and snowy activity like nowhere else. We’ve captured the essence of this on a just released Winter Video. Check it out! This winter we hosted the inaugural Home Ranch Round-Up Nordic Race. It was a grueling 45K skate across our meadows and over hills deemed to be the most challenging race in the country. The elite racers loved it. We did offer a 15K and 7K for the more sane skiers. Due to its success and feedback from participants, the Round-Up will be an annual event in March, which will grow and attract racers from across the country. The event made for a fun and exciting weekend for our guests. Along with Easter also came the [...]

Fresh Harvested Veggies ~ Gentling Young Horses

A Glance Back Over A Harvest and Weanling Week Harvest time at the Home Ranch is pretty special. Each year, at summer's end, when the kids have gone back to school and the garden is at its peak, we dedicate a vacation season to the glories of the harvest, and the tastes and inclinations of adults, sans children. This year was a true culinary celebration of Colorado's rich brewing, wine, spirits and farm to table movement and, of course, a celebration of the beauty and charm of young horses. The many and varied activities of the season were applauded by guests. Here is a brief look back at the events of the season (with a few Whiskey cocktail recipes thrown in for good measure!) Bikes and Brews After a full summer of construction, the farm kitchen was ready to host outdoor dinners for our Harvest Weeks - which kicked off with [...]

Fire Up The Grill- Harvest Weeks

The vision of Clyde’s Farm is now a reality at The Home Ranch; and to celebrate it’s bounty we have invited Colorado beer crafters, distillers, winemakers, food artisans and chefs to ply their wares. We now have the opportunity to showcase such a wide array of talent on site at both our new Farm Kitchen and Lodge Dining Room. We welcome you to join us at The Home Ranch in late summer to immerse yourself in the Locavore movement during our Mountain Harvest Weeks. Warm Regards, Clyde Nelson General Manger & Executive Chef

Fire Up the Grill- June

Firing up the Grill with Chef Clyde Around here early June is our favorite time of year. Our meadows are lush with green, and roaming with horses grazing on the pastures’ new growth. The river is roaring and the Ranch is buzzing with activity as we prepare for our first guests. Our summer staff is arriving daily, all excited to be here and contribute to a great Home Ranch experience. Within this beautiful Elk River valley, with all of its opportunities for enjoyment, and with our mission of great Western hospitality, we have created a special sense of place just for you. This year marks my 25th at the Ranch; but not one of them felt like it was work. I’ve now broadened my duties and have taken on the position of General Manager but will still be wearing my toque of The Executive Chef. Selina Heintz has been named [...]
