What to Bring
Summertime
Summertime temperatures at the ranch can fluctuate between 30 degrees at night and 95 degrees during the day. We recommend a system of dressing in layers. Please bring jeans, long-sleeve shirts, a hat with a brim, and riding boots or tennis shoes (riding boots preferred) for horseback riding. Hiking boots, shorts and short-sleeve shirts are best for hiking. Other suggested items include: bathing suit, sweater or fleece jacket, bug repellent, fanny pack, light rain jacket and camera. The Home Ranch is located at 7200 feet. Sunglasses and sunscreen are very helpful in protecting you from the intense sun.
Wintertime
Winter in Colorado is beautiful, but we need to be prepared for varying weather conditions. We suggest that you bring along a thick pair of ski socks and sock liners. These will keep your feet warm and dry. Dress in multiple thin layers—we find this to be warmer than one bulky layer. Polypropylene long underwear tops and bottoms make an ideal base layer. A warm non-cotton turtleneck is good for the first layer, followed by fleece and or sweater and a wind proof GoreTex shell and GoreTex pants make excellent outerwear. Don't forget a hat and gloves, as well as sunglasses and sunscreen (SPF 15 or higher!) for your face and lips. A backpack is handy to tuck away those extra layers when it's warm or for storing water and lunch on an all-day backcountry ski trip. For casual walking around the ranch, bring a warm pair of snow boots.
