This handsome fellow is Wyatt and has been in our Home Ranch herd for about two years now. Wyatt is around 8 years old, is a very sweet bay quarter horse and has a ton of character! According to our wranglers he is really well tempered, responsive, and is one of their favorites in the herd. For his age, Wyatt is a great horse and because of that, he was able to be placed in our guest string this past summer.
Some of you might wonder how we decide what horses get to be in our guest string. When a horse comes to the Home Ranch, they are first ridden by a select few to help determine what level the horse is at. We check for positive and negative attributes. For example, does the horse move well off of our leg? Does the horse neck rein properly? Does the horse kick or misbehave when you ask him to perform? After determining these items, the horse gets put in our wrangler string and works on his positive and negative traits. Once our trusted wranglers determine he is at the level he needs to be, the horse gets the opportunity to move up into our guest horse string. Once a horse is at this level, they should be able to perform well and enjoy the ride just as much as the rider. Wyatt is a great example of a horse new to the string and is looking forward to more opportunities to hit the trail next summer!
