The Elk River Road (CR 129) leads to hundreds of miles of challenging, exceptional cycling – potentially taking you to the Wyoming border if you are so inclined. Pedal the Elk River or Seedhouse roads right from your vacation home on the ranch and you will be rewarded with miles and miles of Western Alpine vistas: wildflower-strewn meadows, grazing horses and cattle, Aspen-flanked Sand Mountain, the soaring Elkhead range, postcard-perfect Hahn’s peak, stellar Steamboat Lake, and the rushing Elk River. Popular routes include 25-mile out and backs, mixed-dirt touring, epic hill climbs, and rushing downhills.
COLUMBINE OUT AND BACK ROUTE: 24 MILES
This asphalt-surface ride North towards Hahn's Peak village, Steamboat lake, and historic Columbine, features an abrupt rise in elevation with gorgeous Alpine scenery, some long climbs and some fast descents. Just take a right at the end of the Home Ranch driveway and head North. Continue past Hahn's Peak village until you come to the tiny village of Columbine. Return the way you came. A beautiful ride and a great workout.
SEEDHOUSE ROAD OUT AND BACK: 14 MILES
This is a peaceful, moderate asphalt-surface ride that follows the Elk River to the end of Seedhouse Road. Ride from the ranch to the end of our driveway. Take a right and head North on the Elk River Road, over the Elk River Bridge, to the fork at Seedhouse Road. Go right on Seedhouse Road and ride along the Elk River until the road ends.
STEAMBOAT LAKE LOOP: 20.5 MILES ASPHALT AND PACKED GRAVEL
A challenging loop on asphalt and packed gravel with very little traffic and gorgeous ranch and Alpine scenery, this route appeals to serious cyclists who want to ride on mixed surfaces. The loop begins at the Clark Store. At the Clark Store, turn right on Cottonwood Pass Road (CR 62). Ride past our very own Murphy-Larsen Ranch, do the big climb up Red Creek Ridge, and continue North towards Steamboat Lake. You can extend the ride by continuing on Elk River Road (CR 129) for few more miles (5 miles/8 km) beyond Hahns Peak (all uphill) until you reach the small town of Columbine.
